Swamp kauri bowl.  Danish oil highly buffed.  235mmx85mm.

Small Ancient Kauri bowl. Keeping it simple lets the wood shine.  Given a coat of Osmo Oil and then Beall buffed.  Size:110 diameter and 90mm high

I nearly rejected this 19,000 year old Swamp Kauri blank, after opening up the bug hole. I am pleased I persisted and am delighted with the warm figured result.  300 Dia. X 50H. Mirotone 3242 sanding Sealer, Friction applied Carnauba wax. 

A lipped household soft commodities bowl, measuring 260mm wide by 110mm high, turned from salvaged Kauri.  The fiction wax finish is pleasing to touch and beautifully reveals the natural golden hue within the wood. 

‘Macaramello’ – so-named because this magnificent Macrocarpa resembles caramello ice cream – measures 165x75mm and is finished with 100% natural Kauream. Her form provides maximum surface area to celebrate her remarkable grain while subtle details capture attention and draw the eye in.

Matai 300mm diameter platter that has a warm glow along with chatoyance. Sourced from banks of the Waikato River where the river meets the sea.  How many years has this been floating before arriving at its final resting place. 

Pine Nut Bowl, 50mm wide x 15 mm High. Finished with EEE and Shellawax.

Sorry, I couldn't resist! This pretty piece of London Plane turned and finished beautifully, the only issue  finding the mid-way between a bowl & a platter.... A little piece of whimsy.  260 Dia. X 40H   Mirotone 3242 Sanding sealer, Museum polish.

Portion of a recycled Rimu timber kitchen bench top. Now a simple yet elegant platter measuring 270mm wide by 35mm high.  The friction wax finish draws out the diverse rich natural colors. 

The timber is Spalted Boxelder Maple (Acer negundo). size- Top external Diam 248mm, Base diam 145mm, Height 108mm, depth of bowl 85mm. The bowl was finished with a sanding sealer and then two applications of bee's wax buffed with a dry cloth. I like the effect of the Spalting and how it makes the bowl attractive.

There is a variety of colours in the wood, from light flecks to greens and browns.  This is the result of the log being buried for so long underground.     Size: 190mm Wide x 75mm High.  Finish:  Danish Oil

This Puriri bowl showcases the natural figuring and a knot that celebrates the beauty of imperfection. Nature has a way of taking one’s breath away, and through this work I honour that wonder. Finish: carnauba wax.  Dimensions 230mm x 65mm.

A rustic interpretation of a relic of NZ's  past.  Elm with an undercut rim and contrasting textures and colours, the voids surround a previously cut limb.  Finish is Danish Oil.  Size 400 D x 160mm H
